If you plan to use TerraTrue for managing reviews of different categories of work or distinct purposes, using launch types can help your team move faster by pre-populating information when creating new launches.
For example, your organization may want to treat launches related to product development distinct from marketing. You can create a launch type specific for each of these types.
Launch types allow you to make it easy for end-users to customize details for a specific kind of launch. When defining the launch type, the following can be specified:
- Labels that get displayed by default for a launch of this type
-
Product that is pre-filled for a launch of this type
- If your organization has product hierarchy enabled, you can also choose whether or not to enable product hierarchy for this launch type
- Workflows (launch creation as well as launch summary workflows) associated with launches of this type
- Data Spec used in this type of launch — Controller or Processor — and whether or not it is required
-
Review teams that are required for launches of this type.
- The completion of review by these review teams is sufficient to transition a launch to the "Completed" status.
Select a launch type on launch creation
If you publish a launch type, end-users can use it as an option when creating a launch. Here's an example showing a choice of two published launch types when creating a new launch:
How to create and publish a launch type
Create a new launch type
To create a launch type, go to Settings > Launch Types. There, you'll see your launch types library. Click 'Add Launch Type' to get started.
Collect third party information
On this same screen, you can also specify if this launch type will collect third party information. For example, if you create a launch type for vendor reviews called “New Vendor Evaluations”, you could select Yes. Then, when a New Vendor Evaluation launch is created, the launch creator will be prompted to add the relevant third party to the launch. This will allow the data collected in the new launch to be automatically linked to the third party's profile.
Configure the launch type
After customizing launch type details, you'll be prompted to customize the Labels, Product, Launch Workflows, the Data Spec, and the Review Teams that are part of this Launch Type. Select the desired values for each of these sections.
Set launch type as required for your organization
To set the launch type as required for your organization, navigate to the Settings tab.
If “Make Launch Type Required” is enabled, then a Default Launch Type must also be set for your organization.
Default launch type is only used with integrations. For example, if your organization has a Jira or Ironclad integration, launches automatically created from those integrations would map to the selected default launch type.
Click "Publish Launch Type" at the bottom of the page when you have specified all the elements of the launch type. After publishing, the launch type will be available for use in launches.
Unpublishing a launch type
If a launch type is no longer in use by your organization, you can choose to unpublish the launch type. Navigate to Settings > Launch Types. In the launch type library, click on the three-dot menu to the left of the launch type you want to unpublish and click on “Unpublish” from the menu.
