TerraTrue - Databricks Unity Catalog Integration

TerraTrue’s partnership with Databricks allows your organization to establish a dynamic, self-correcting governance loop.

By integrating with Databricks Unity Catalog (UC), TerraTrue leverages the rich, centralized metadata to automate privacy and security verification, ensuring your data reality always matches your governance intent.

Benefits of the Integration

  • The Databricks and TerraTrue integeration closes the critical gap between privacy intent and data reality, creating a comprehensive governance loop that neither platform achieves alone.
  • Databricks’ Unity Catalog provides a centralized, authoritative view of your entire data estate. TerraTrue leverages this rich metadata to automate Privacy and Security risk reviews and verify that live data matches your approved designs. By integrating TerraTrue’s pre-deployment risk intelligence with Databricks’ post-deployment visibility, organizations can replace manual, static data mapping with a dynamic, self-correcting system that enforces trust and security at the speed of business.
  • While most other tools rely on reactive, post-deployment scanning to catch risks, TerraTrue enables a 'shift-left' strategy. We embed privacy, security, and governance reviews directly into product development workflows (like Jira) before code is ever written. This ensures data projects on Databricks are compliant by design, preventing costly rework and accelerating time-to-market.

How It Works

TerraTrue connects directly to the Unity Catalog and performs a continuous scan to:

  1. Ingest Metadata: Pull table names, dataset schema, column names, and types from your entire Unity Catalog.

  2. Auto-Classify: Automatically classify the detected column data types against your TerraTrue Data Type Taxonomy (e.g., Name, Email Address, Financial Data).

  3. Governance Loop: Use this classified metadata to feed into TerraTrue’s pre-deployment risk intelligence, ensuring that any new launches or product changes are automatically reviewed against the actual data types in use.

Setup

To begin cataloging your Databricks Unity Catalog assets, navigate to the Ingestion tab in the Data Catalog, select Connect a new source, and choose Databricks Unity Catalog.
